DFSK EC36

2026-09-21 22:00:03

The DFSK EC36 is a fully electric microvan introduced by Seres Auto (Hubei) Co., Ltd. (formerly Dongfeng Sokon). First launched in November 2017, it was developed based on the existing DFSK C36 and served as an important early offering in DFSK's push into the new energy urban logistics and commercial transport sectors. As of May 2026, the EC36 remains on sale in selected markets for logistics and commuting duties.

Model Overview

Positioned as a fully electric microvan, the DFSK EC36 caters directly to urban short-haul logistics, small business transport, and multi-passenger commuting. Its key highlights include a class-leading 3,050 mm wheelbase, a versatile 5.1 m³ cargo capacity, and ultra-low running costs from just RM0.30 per kilometre. Available in 6-seater and 7-seater layouts, the model was initially launched with a pre-subsidy starting price of RM126,900, with current dealer pricing starting from RM129,800. The subsequent upgraded EC36 II variant features an increased battery capacity, priced between RM126,800 and RM130,800. The entire range is fully electric and powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, offering a combined pure electric range of 300 km. The core target market for the EC36 consists primarily of courier and logistics operators, community delivery drivers, and cost-conscious commercial users.

Design Language

The exterior of the EC36 retains the rugged and functional styling of the petrol-powered C36, featuring a boxy silhouette with straight character lines. The front fascia is clean and utilitarian with unpainted black trim for added durability. The rear doors feature the classic dual sliding door setup, making cargo loading and unloading as well as passenger access in tight city streets effortless. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,500 mm long, 1,680 mm wide, and 2,000 mm tall, riding on an expansive 3,050 mm wheelbase that gives it a distinct size and wheelbase advantage in its class.

Inside, the EC36 features a pragmatic dual-tone light and black cabin with a well-organised dashboard layout. The steering wheel is moulded in plastic, complemented by tactile physical buttons on the centre console for straightforward operation. The seats are wrapped in thick, hard-wearing fabric upholstery, with the rear bench capable of folding completely flat to maximise cargo space in tandem with the generous 3,050 mm wheelbase. The EC36 II variant adds a walk-through front cabin layout and a rotary electronic gear selector, further improving front-row practicality.

Powertrain and Performance

The EC36 is driven by a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor producing a maximum output of 60 kW (approx. 82 PS) and 200 Nm of peak torque (supplied by Zhejiang Founder, model TZ205XSFDM). Low-speed acceleration from 0 to 60 km/h is brisk and responsive, making it well-suited for stop-and-go city traffic.

For energy storage, the van offers lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs sourced from either CATL or Gotion High-Tech, with capacities of 41.86 kWh and 41.932 kWh respectively. The Gotion-equipped variant carries the model designation DXK6450EC13BEV. Range-wise, it delivers an NEDC-rated combined range of 300 km and a CLTC range of 270 km. Fast charging is a notable advantage, supporting DC fast charging that takes approximately 1.3 hours to replenish the battery from 30% to 80% for improved commercial uptime, while standard AC charging takes around 8 hours. The manufacturer backs the battery pack with an extensive 8-year or 120,000 km warranty.

Chassis and Handling

The EC36 is built on a heavy-duty chassis tuned for payload capacity and practicality. Unlike conventional front-wheel-drive electric passenger cars, the EC36 retains a traditional commercial van rear-mounted motor, rear-wheel-drive (RR) layout, with the electric motor mounted directly on the rear axle. This setup provides superior traction and gradeability when laden. The suspension setup comprises MacPherson struts at the front and a 5-leaf spring rigid axle at the rear for maximum load-bearing support. Braking is handled by a front disc and rear drum setup. The inclusion of Electric Power Steering (EPS) ensures light steering effort during low-speed manoeuvres and U-turns under heavy loads, reducing driver fatigue. Tyre sizes are specified at 185 R14.

Cabin and Equipment

The EC36 is available in either a 5-door 6-seater (Gen II) or 5-door 7-seater configuration. Thanks to its 2,000 mm overall height and 3,050 mm wheelbase, interior space is generous, with plenty of headroom throughout. Cargo capacity is its main selling point, offering a usable cargo volume ranging from 1.3 to 5.1 cubic metres, catering to diverse urban delivery and commercial hauling needs.

In terms of in-cabin equipment and creature comforts, the van focuses on everyday practicality. Standard kit includes power front windows, remote central locking, and a digital radio. The air conditioning system comes standard with a front-only single evaporator, with a dual-evaporator system (incorporating rear roof-mounted vents) available as an option. Buyers can also specify an MP5 infotainment unit with a reverse camera for added entertainment and parking convenience. For urban operators, policy perks like exemption from licence plate quotas and traffic restrictions serve as a key commercial draw in restricted Chinese cities.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Active and passive safety is tailored for basic, dependable protection. A driver airbag is standard across the board. In addition, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD/CBC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) are standard equipment. The instrument cluster displays vehicle speed and battery state of charge, alongside seatbelt reminders, door-ajar warnings, and a remaining driving range readout. Driver assistance remains functional and minimalist, featuring rear parking sensors as standard. The optional reverse camera further aids drivers by reducing blind spots during tricky reversing manoeuvres.

Market Performance and Reception

The DFSK EC36 stands out as a prime example of a traditional commercial microvan successfully converted to electric propulsion. As one of the early movers in microvan platform electrification, it has established a solid customer base. Used-car transaction statistics show that the EC36 consistently ranks among the top performers in multiple regional used vehicle markets. In vehicle registration tallies from cities such as Foshan and Dongguan, the EC36 has maintained steady numbers, demonstrating its reliable presence in logistics fleets, individual commercial setups, and institutional transport services.

User feedback for the DFSK EC36 has been largely positive. Commendations centre on its exceptionally cavernous cargo space, easy manoeuvrability despite its 4.5-metre length, and remarkably low running and charging costs compared to petrol counterparts. Furthermore, widespread service network support and the proven reliability of its core EV powertrain components have cemented its popularity among commercial operators.

Overall, as an early trailblazer in the urban logistics transition from petrol to electric power, the DFSK EC36—with its proven platform, class-stretching 3,050 mm wheelbase, and up to 300 km electric range—continues to hold a dependable market share and customer base among cost-sensitive commercial operators and urban delivery fleets.
